Rely on Our EPA Certified Lead Dust Sampling Technicians for Your Home Inspection Needs
Lead is a naturally occurring element found in small amounts in the earth’s crust. While it has some beneficial uses, it can be toxic to humans and animals, causing health effects. Lead can be found in all parts of our environment- the air, soil, the water and even inside our homes. Lead and lead compounds have been used in a wide variety of products found in and around our homes, including paint, ceramics, pipes and plumbing materials, solders, gasoline, batteries, ammunition and even cosmetics.
Keep your tenants and their families protected and lead-free.
Lead-based paint may also be a hazard when found on surfaces that children can chew or that get a lot of wear-and-tear. As lead paint ages, it can chip or crumble into dust. Exposure to lead-paint dust or chips can cause serious health problems.
If your home was built before 1978, it is more likely to have lead-based paint. Lead was a key ingredient in household paint. In 1978, the federal government banned consumer uses of lead-based paint, but some states banned it even earlier. So, if you live in or own an older home, you need to know how to protect yourself and others.
It is important to have a comprehensive lead paint and dust inspections performed by a certified specialist prior to any renovations especially, in older homes. Lead paint removal has to be conducted in a controlled environment unlike non-lead paint. Lead exposure can be prevented, but improper remediation techniques can cause harm. It is safest not to undertake lead removal on your own.

Congress, in recent years, has passed numerous laws pertaining to lead. These laws address lead found in various substances and elements including but not limited to paint, dust, soil, air, water and outline how to properly dispose of lead waste. The EPA has been tasked with enforcing these laws by addressing lead contamination and the resulting hazards. The EPA also helps the regulated community understand the Federal requirements associated with these policies and guidance documentation to assist in complying with the regulations.
